Pen Review: Hardy Pen Wrights

Happy PAW-lidays!

Today’s pen is of special importance—I was blessed this year to have adopted my first dog. She has taught me so much about kindness, love, and gratefulness. I wanted to commemorate this event with a custom pen and reached out to Gregory Hardy (@hardypenwrights). I sent him the picture below and we settled on a pen with faux ivory/brown colors, a floral clip, and pawprint medallions. Greg decided that the final design would be a surprise, so the first time I saw the pen was during the unpackaging.

Design (5/5): This is a 13mm pen. It is lightweight and comfortable to use. It cannot be posted but I typically hold the cap in my hand while writing. The floral clip provides a feminine, classy touch and is very solid. The bronze accents are warm and resemble rose-gold, but will develop a nice patina over time. In my opinion, the paw-prints are the perfect finishing touch.

Color (5/5): Initially I was worried that the brown would be too dark, but the color resembles a light milk chocolate. The faux ivory is streaked with white and cream stripes which resemble the texture of my dog’s fur . The warm colors make this pen versatile for many ink colors—green ink would give a tropical island/coconut feel, whereas red/purple ink would provide a dessert theme (think raspberries, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate drizzle).

Ink Capacity (4/5): This pen uses a standard converter.

Overall (5/5): This pen represents my pup perfectly! I love how the ivory matches her fur perfectly and the brown trim reminds me of her perky ears. I would like to extend a thank you to Greg—apparently this pen went through two iterations in the shop! I’m extremely satisfied with his work and highly recommend checking out his page. Happy holidays everyone!
