Happy Friday everyone! It’s been a busy week as I’ve had to settle back into work. This pen was an impulse buy from Walltown Craftworks. Their shop is located in North Carolina and specializes in handcrafted fountain pens (as well as rollerballs and ballpoints). This was my last purchase of 2019 and I’ve finally gotten around to writing a review!
Design (4/5): This is the Edgemont clipless model fashioned from McKenzie’s Diamondcast material. The pen cannot be posted and the cap takes roughly 1.5-2 turns to uncap. It measures 5.3 inches (134.1 mm), weighs 24 g (0.84 oz) and has a diameter of 16mm. In contrast, the section measures 11 mm which is comfortable for long writing sessions. This is a classic design and earns a 4/5 in this category.
Color (5/5): If you want a dazzling, bling-y beauty, then Diamondcast pen blanks are your new best friend. According to their website, these blanks have real diamond dispersed within the material which adds to the glitter! I wasn’t prepared for the amount of sparkle in real life and was literally hit in the eye with the gleam as I unpackaged the pen. This is the Hiddenite blank which comes across as a dark emerald green. The color is difficult to photograph but reminds me of Diamine Forest Green.
Nib (4/5): This model came equipped with a Jowo #6 <M> nib. You have your choice of polished (stainless steel), gold-plated, and black oxide. I opted for the black oxide coating as it gave the pen a very sleek look. As always, I’m pleased with the writing performance and interchangeability of Jowo nibs.
Ink Capacity (3/5): The Edgemont comes with a standard converter.
Overall (4/5): Perhaps this is the post-holiday bias, but I’m very happy with the design and craftsmanship of this pen. It provides sparkle in my mornings as well as wonderful writing experience!
