Pen Review: Pilot Capless Decimo
Hi everyone! Today I'll be reviewing one of my favorite pens--the Pilot Capless Decimo. I reach for this pen at least once a day--so much so that I always have to include it, or a Vanishing Point, within my weekly rotation!
The Pilot Capless line , also known as Vanishing Point within the United States, has been around for decades. The Decimo is what I refer to as the "little cousin". The pen is slimmer than it's main counterpart, and comes in a smaller variety of colors.
Design (4/5): Coming in at 0.7 oz (20.6 g), this is a light, slim pen. In contrast, my Raden Galaxy is . Both pens have the nose clip, but I find that the Decimo is less hindering than the Vanishing Point. I've started resting my index finger on the clip while I write, which lessens the strain when writing.
"Pilot Japan" embossed in the middle of the pen.
I LOVE the clicking mechanism as I tend to fidget with my pens. The "click" feels strong and does not wobble. These pens operate with a hidden trap-door mechanism to ensure that your nibs do not dry out.
My ony complaint with the design is the metal nose cap. It's not "grippy" and I find that I have to grip harder to prevent the pen from sliding down.
Color(5/5) : This is the Champagne color. It's a professional, sleek pink which doesn't look out of place in an office.
Nib (5/5) : I exclusively use medium nibs on my Vanishing Points. These nibs are 18k gold and available in rhodium-plated, gold, or black. The medium is similar to a western M, and provides a nice, consistent flow.
Ink Capacity (3/5) : I have to knock the rating down quite a bit. This pen can uses cartridges or converters. However, the converters are notoriously known for having a small (0.82 mL) capacity. I haven't experienced a situation where I've run out of ink, but I do use this pen for a few lines of writing each day.
Overall: I would give this pen a 4/5. The clicking mechanism makes this a go-to for jotting errands down or quick meeting notes. I would recommend having backup cartridges onhand to make up for the limited ink capacity. This is a dear favorite of mine and I recommend it for anyone looking to experience "ballpoint" fountain pens!
