Ink Review #3: J. Herbin Violette Pensee

img_2040.jpeg

Today I will be writing about my first J. Herbin ink -- Violette Pensee. The color is a beautiful, bright violet and would be versatile for either spring or summer.

Jacques Herbin was founded in Paris during King Louis XIV's rule. Their inks are non-toxic and pH neutral. Additionally, these inks purportedly use all natural dyes. What this means is that these inks will be safe to use even in vintage pens! They also have a Scented Ink line, which I would like to try in the future.

I purchased the 10 mL vial from Pen Chalet. These bottles are the perfect size for testing and oh so adorable! They remind me of the sodium chloride bottles we used to practice insulin injections during self-care/over the counter pharmacotherapy lab.

This ink is a true bright purple/violet. It is initially pink/purple, but dries to blue/purple. There is slight shading and no sheen.

This ink was a joy to use for longer writing sessions. The ink dried quickly and I had no issues with hard starts or skipping. The ink is not water resistant (you can see this in the picture above).

Overall:

This is my first (and not last) foray into J. Herbin inks. I love the packaging as the 10 mL bottles are the perfect sample size. However, I don't think I will purchase this color again as I prefer a warmer purple with medium/high shading.
