Ink Review #26: Rohrer & Klingner Eisen Gallus Salix

Today I will be talking about Rohrer & Klingner's Salix. This is the second iron-gall ink that they offer and is a pleasant, faded blue color. The review for Scabiosa, its sister color, can be found here.

As a reminder, iron gall inks are recommended for use in gold nibs as these formulations are acidic and can corrode steel nibs. Additionally, it is best to clean your pens frequently (~ 4 weeks or so).

This ink had no sheen , high shading, and a quick dry time. The color is a faded denim blue and reminds me of blueberries.

This ink was well-behaved for longer writing samples. I liked using it in larger nibs to see the shading!

Overall: Salix has landed itself on my "to-own" list--right next to its sister, Scabiosa. I seem to have fallen in love with iron gall inks! The blue is refreshing and pleasant to look at.
