Ink Review #321: Monteverde Gemstone Fireopal

Today we’re taking a look at a Monteverde ink from their Gemstone collection. It feels like it’s been quite a while since I reviewed this brand. Monteverde inks are lubricated to prevent drying out/skipping in pens.

This ink had high shading and no sheen. It’s a bright, fiery red-orange that’s a shade darker than Taccia Ukiyo-E Sharaku Koiame.

I felt that this ink was quite dry with a well-controlled flow. I expected a well-lubricated ink to be naturally wet but found that this ink was quite dry. It did have a well-controlled and smooth flow. The color is stunning and looks like flames—it has the perfect amount of shading.

Overall: I’m conflicted about this sample. On one hand, the shading and color are fantastic. It does have a dry flow so I see myself using it in broad/wet writers.
