Ink Review #223: Platinum Carbon Black

Today we will be taking a look at Platinum Carbon Black. This is a pitch black ink with excellent depth and saturation. In contrast to most fountain pen inks, PCB is pigmented instead of dye-based. This makes it an excellent choice for artists, though it is recommended that you clean out your fountain pen once weekly.

This ink had no shading and high sheen. The sheen is quite unique and is a graphite-like pencil silver. This black has no undertones—I felt like I was staring into the void. It is definitely the “blackest” black ink I have reviewed so far.

This ink had a long dry time of 50-60 seconds and high water resistance.

I was pleasantly surprised by this ink sample. It had an overly wet but consistent flow. The consistency makes it perfect for sketches and art.

Overall: I wasn’t expecting to be wowed by a black ink, but I like Platinum Carbon Black a lot. I especially liked the high water resistance and deep pigmentation!
