Ink Review #224: Sailor Kiwaguro Pigmented Black

Today I wanted to review Sailor Kiwaguro Pigmented Black. One of my friends was curious about Platinum Carbon Black vs Kiwaguro Black, so I put these reviews back-to-back. Similar to PCB, Kiwaguro is a pigmented black.

This ink had no shading and low sheen. The color is less pigmented than PCB and is what I would consider a standard black ink. It has no undertones.

This ink had a long dry time at 50 seconds and high water resistance.

I found that this ink had a regular flow similar to Sei-boku and Sou-boku. I did not experience feathering. This ink would be suitable for class notes or work.

Overall: This is a classic waterproof black. Surprisingly, I would pick Platinum Carbon Black over Kiwaguro as it is more pigmented and “deep”. However Kiwaguro is a well-behaved, smooth ink! I don’t think you could go wrong with either choice.
