Ink Review #583: Montegrappa Black

Happy 4th of July! We’ve run into new (to me) ink reviews lately, which is great! Today I am reviewing Montegrappa black. Montegrappa is an Italian company founded in 1912 and specializes in watches, cuff links, pens, and inks. I was surprised to find out Montegrappa is owned by the Aquila family, and Sylvester Stallone is one of the shareholders!

This ink had low shading and no sheen. The color comes across as purple-leaning in swatches, but has a decidely cooler tone in my writing samples. I would describe this as a "flat” black.

This ink had a slightly wet flow and average saturation.

Overall: Montegrappa black is—well, a standard black ink that is suitable for all environments and seasons. I prefer warmer or blue-leaning blacks so this ink is a bit of a miss for me.
