Ink Review #743: Robert Oster: Chicago

Hello everyone! Today’s post will serve as a nice close to 2022! This year was incredibly challenging. I passed two board exams after months of studying (what a relief!). I also started clinical rotations and am happy to report that I am thriving. Every rotation is a step closer to residency and my future specialty!

I also finished transcribing Black Beauty as well as completed another notebook. I still have a stash of Hobonichi notebooks so we will continue to review inks on Tomoe River Paper.

As far as the pen collection goes, I’ve gravitated towards finer and finer nibs —perhaps it is due to terrible-quality hospital paper? It’s definitely more difficult to have “neat” handwriting, but I love the thin lines. I will write a “2022 state of the collection” in a bit, but know that my Lamy 2000 <F> has a place in my heart forever!

As for my dear readers, I hope that 2023 will bring everyone joy and happiness!

Today, I will be reviewing Robert Oster Chicago which is part of the Cities from America line. This is a gorgeous bluish-grey.

Swabs:

Chicago is a pale, warm grey with hints of blue and purple. It exhibits high shading and no sheen—the shading reminds me of the Sailor Studio multi shading inks (123, 162, etc).

Dry Time/Water Resistance:

This ink had an average dry time of 30 seconds and medium water resistance.

Chicago demonstrated a consistent, average flow with average saturation.

Overall: I loved this color, so much that I inked my journal pen with it! I especially liked the shading and flow.
